As the owner of The Queen’s Residence Bed and Breakfast in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Mi we spent the first year trying to figure out why all of our competitors were doing 300% more business.

We thought we did everything right, we made a nice place offering more amenities than our competition, nice rooms, plenty of common areas, a wonderful court yard, and great food, an original 1700’s tavern, and we treated our guests like royalty.

We had a website made by a local webmaster and had it up and running three months before we opened.

Very few people came. Some months we had only one or two customers. The guests we did get were referrals from other bed and breakfasts that were full. Very frustrating! And to make the frustration worse our reviews were better than anyone. The guests we did get loved it.

After months of research, upgrades to our rooms, and numerous specials we figured out our website was not attracting interested in going to a bed and breakfast. We were getting several hundred visitors a week but they were there by mistake. 90% of our visitors were not and would hit the “back button” after 10 seconds.
